SMALL MAMMAL SENIOR CARE & GERIATRIC LOGIC
Comfort, Weight Maintenance, and Accessible Housing.
For small mammals, age comes quickly. Whether it is a rabbit slowing down at age six or a rat developing hind leg weakness at age two, the transition requires immediate environmental changes. Senior small pets often suffer from silent arthritis, cataracts, and a dangerous inability to maintain body heat.
In this wing of the library, we focus on Geriatric Engineering. We cover the logic of Housing Modifications (switching from multi-level cages to single-level 'flat' layouts to prevent falls), Weight & Warmth (supplementing calories and heat for frail bodies), and Hospice Hygiene (assisting with grooming when they can no longer reach). We believe that even the smallest life deserves a comfortable retirement.
How to Navigate This Section: We have organized this library into three focused pillars to help you manage this stage.
Scroll down to explore:
Mobility & Housing: Removing ramps/levels, switching to softer bedding (Vet bed/Fleece), and ensuring 'flat' accessibility.
Weight & Warmth: Managing weight loss with supplemental feeding (Critical Care) and safe external heat sources.
Hygiene & Maintenance: Managing dental overgrowth in aging chewers, assisted cleaning (perineal sacs/ears), and managing blindness.

A Personal Note
I’m building this ecosystem by hand, piece by piece. Since it’s just me behind the blueprints, I’m always open to hearing your concerns and evolving this design with your feedback. As we grow, I’m planning to add a dedicated Q&A section to help tackle the specific logic of our pets' lives.
All I ask is that you bring those words with kindness. Let’s keep this community as respectful as the animals we love.
Thank you so much 😊
