AVIAN SENIOR CARE & GERIATRIC LOGIC
Perching Ergonomics, Vision Support, and Physiological Comfort.
Birds are unique in the geriatric world because they spend almost 24 hours a day on their feet. As they age, arthritis makes gripping a standard perch painful and difficult. A senior bird who falls during the night faces injury and terror. Furthermore, issues like cataracts and atherosclerosis (hardening of the arteries) require specific lifestyle changes.
In this wing of the library, we focus on Ergonomic Engineering. We cover the logic of Perch Adaptation (switching from round dowels to flat platforms), Fall Prevention (lowering the cage layout to reduce impact risks), and Thermal Support (using heat to soothe stiff joints). We believe that a senior bird can remain part of the flock if their environment provides the stability they need.
How to Navigate This Section: We have organized this library into three focused pillars to help you manage this stage. Scroll down to explore:
Mobility & Perching: The shift to 'Platform Perches' (flat resting spots), wrapping perches for grip, and lowering the cage canopy.
Sensory & Vision: Managing cataracts and blindness (keeping food/water consistent) and 'Target Training' for tactile navigation.
Physiological Health: Managing warmth (Thermo-Perches), grooming assistance for stiff birds, and liver/heart support.

A Personal Note
I’m building this ecosystem by hand, piece by piece. Since it’s just me behind the blueprints, I’m always open to hearing your concerns and evolving this design with your feedback. As we grow, I’m planning to add a dedicated Q&A section to help tackle the specific logic of our pets' lives.
All I ask is that you bring those words with kindness. Let’s keep this community as respectful as the animals we love.
Thank you so much 😊
