SMALL MAMMAL PRECISION NUTRITION LOGIC
The Fiber Imperative: Hay, Gut Health, and Dental Wear.
The term 'Small Mammal' covers a wide range of biological needs. While they may be similar in size, their digestive systems are radically different. A Rabbit is a Hindgut Fermenter who requires constant fiber to survive; a Ferret is an Obligate Carnivore who requires high-protein meat and cannot process fiber; and Sugar Gliders or Hedgehogs are specialized Omnivores/Insectivores requiring complex balances of protein, nectar, and produce.
In this wing of the library, we reject the 'one size fits all' pellet approach. We break nutrition down by biological classification. We cover the 80% Hay Rule for herbivores, the Taurine & Protein requirements for ferrets, and the Calcium/Phosphorus Ratios critical for gliders and hedgehogs. We believe that feeding a small pet correctly means understanding their specific evolutionary engine.
How to Navigate This Section: We have organized this library into three distinct biological pillars.
Scroll down to find your species:
The Herbivores (Rabbits, Guinea Pigs, Chinchillas): The 80% Hay Rule, preventing GI Stasis, and avoiding sugary 'muesli' mixes.
The Carnivores (Ferrets): High-protein, grain-free diets, raw feeding logic, and the danger of plant fibers (Insulinoma risks).
The Omnivores & Insectivores (Hamsters, Rats, Hedgehogs, Gliders): Balancing lab blocks with fresh produce, insects, and nectar."

A Personal Note
I’m building this ecosystem by hand, piece by piece. Since it’s just me behind the blueprints, I’m always open to hearing your concerns and evolving this design with your feedback. As we grow, I’m planning to add a dedicated Q&A section to help tackle the specific logic of our pets' lives.
All I ask is that you bring those words with kindness. Let’s keep this community as respectful as the animals we love.
Thank you so much 😊
